Pink @Bonnard

I couldn’t take my eyes off the gorgeous pink tones that sang to me in many of Pierre Bonnard”s paintings . The rosy tones, soft and luscious or vibrant pinks and reds were my favourite passages in the paintings.

Currently on at the NGV until October the Melbourne Winter Masterpiece is a feast of glorious colour. The curation of the exhibition is the work of India Mahdavi a French architect celebrated for her use of colour, form and texture.

The rooms are aglow with soft yellows, oranges, blues and greens, a riot of sunny colours and pattern. It takes a few moments to accustom your eyes to the patterned wallpaper taken from Bonnard’s paintings, they are amazingly busy and playful.

Well worth a visit, allow plenty of time to linger from room to room. I had 2 hours there and may just have to go back again to breathe it all in again. I came away feeling like I’d been bathed in colour.
