Industry Night

As part of our course the tutors of Illustration arrange an interview session where we have the opportunity to show our portfolios and sketchbooks to professional illustrators and people in publishing. So last night armed with our business cards and work produced over the past few months we met at Brightspace gallery where everyone  could also view our “Shameless” exhibition before meeting us.  It was a really valuable experience to speak to Ann James a well known children’s book illustrator and co-founder of Books Illustrated, Sonia Kretschmar illustrator, Barbara Kitallides an agent and visual artist and Paul Collins the editor of Ford St Publishing. All four had very pertinent advice to give when glancing through our portfolios … commenting positively on our strengths and where we might possibly head, dropping a few contacts and lots of practical encouragement.  They also gave advice on filling any  gaps or necessary developments in our range of work that might help us.  One comment that still sticks with me though is “do whatever you really love to do “….. ! So here goes …
